Laura Snider is a religious fanatic who's trying to impose her deranged and benighted beliefs on her 11-year-old daughter. She's unfit to be a mother; as the article explains, even her own family doesn't want her to be granted primary custody of her child. Bringing up children in a religion is one thing, making them hew to the harsh strictures of a cult is another. The courts should not only reject her appeal, but reduce whatever custody rights she does have--for the good of the child.

The courts have it wrong -- inculcating fundamentalism should not be a parent's right. As adults, they are free to follow whatever religion they want, but twisting young, malleable minds through concerted programs of inculcation is not in the interest of either the child or society.

Religion is at the very foundation of most of the world's problems. I'm horrified that it would affect custody of children, too. Fundmentalism in any faith is brainwashing. Get the kids away from the parent who wants to brainwash the child and prevents the child from using his/her God-given intelligance!!
